Electromagnets in a motor in a Garbage Disposal
A Garbage Disposal is used to chop up gross food that goes down the drain. It is simply a motor hooked up to a things that spins and crushes. I use my garbage Disposal to chop up anything from corn to egg shells and orange peels. If you put a spoon in a Garbage Disposal it does not chop it up, however it makes a terrible noise.
The motor is spun by electromagnets. When the current is passed through a coil, it creates a magnetic field. The field then pushes metal poles around and the motor is spins so it can crush gross food. *side note, don't put your finger in the Garbage disposal bc it will chop it up like a carrot*
